However, coral reefs are dying at alarming rates due to rising sea temperatures, ocean acidification, pollution, and destructive human activities. Coral bleaching, where corals expel the algae they rely on, is becoming more frequent, leading to mass die-offs. As reefs vanish, marine ecosystems collapse, endangering biodiversity, food security, and coastal communities globally.

ELECTRIC REEF INITIATIVE

At Seaforms, we are dedicated to revitalising dying coral reef systems through our pioneering Electric Reef Initiative. Our solution combines innovative technology and nature-based design to foster coral growth and resilience. The Electric Reef System (E.R.S) utilises the concept of underwater electrolysis to accrete calcium carbonate, a mineral crucial for coral growth.

 

By creating a calcium-rich environment, we reduce the stress experienced by corals, allowing them to focus on growing stronger and healthier.This process not only accelerates coral recovery but also increases their survival rates, fostering a stable foundation for long-term reef restoration. By integrating advanced technology with environmental stewardship, Seaforms is committed to restoring marine biodiversity, protecting coastal communities, and preserving our oceans for future generations.

CORAL RESTORATION TECHNIQUES

Coral fragmentation involves breaking larger colonies of coral into smaller pieces, which are then transplanted onto a suitable substrate. This method is particularly useful for fast-growing species of coral, as the fragments can quickly grow into new colonies.

Coral larval propagation involves collecting coral larvae from the wild and growing them in a lab until they are large enough to be transplanted onto a substrate. This method is particularly useful for slow-growing species of coral, as it allows for the production of large numbers of genetically diverse coral colonies.

Electric reefs involve underwater electrolysis in the ocean to accrete calcium carbonate, an essential mineral for coral development. This helps increase coral resilience and restore damaged coral reefs. This method is particularly useful in areas where coral growth has been stunted due to pollution or other environmental factors.

Coral gardening is similar to coral fragmentation, but the fragments are raised in a more controlled environment (coral nurseries) for a longer period before being transplanted back into the reef or any sites in need for more thriving corals.

Artificial reef deployment involves sinking artificial structures, such as ships, onto which coral fragments can be transplanted. These structures provide a new substrate for coral growth and also serve as habitats. Artificial reef deployment is particularly useful in areas where natural coral reefs have been damaged.
